The web site that I found for AVP was a basic site that told who the actors and actresses were and the idea behind the movie. I did tike the reviews that were written about the movie to see what thoughts people had on the movie.

The article I found on the reading was on remakes. It was a pretty good article that talks about the top 10 remakes of all time. Wouldn’t be my list, but was a good read.

In this weeks readings I enjoyed reading about Sequels and Remakes. I have always enjoyed the fact that directors are willing to keep the story going. It is true that not all the sequels are that great, but for me I like the idea that the movie doesn’t end after a few hours. Take Indiana Jones for instance. Steven Spielberg directed Raiders of the Lost Ark, which was a fantastic movie. Then came along Joe Blow or whomever and made Temple of Doom, which did keep the story of Indy going was a flop. Then Spielberg took over the reins and made The Last Crusade, which ended the trilogy on the highest note of all. Sequels can be very effective and enjoyable if directed right.
The movie that I watched was AVP- Alien vs. Predator. This movie was pretty good if you think of the others before it. Basically Alien and Aliens, and Predator. In the Aliens movie we realize that the alien is a breeding killing force that is a true adversary. In Predator we see that the Predator is kind of on safari and is looking for the best hunt. So the idea for AVP was strong, but I think it lacked creativity. They could have made the story a little more solid. I did like how the girl at the end took the side of the Predator knowing the story of the two, and the Predator looking at her as an allied hunter.

I don’t know really what to say about this Module. I am not really a big independent film fan and definitely didn’t like the movies that we watched, but then that is only my opinion. I do like the creative side of independent films and how they make you think instead of just stare.
I picked the director Mel Gibson for my paper. First because I enjoy all of his movies and second because I think that he will be one of those directors that will always be talked about for years to come.
Mel Gibson – Annotated Bibliography
Maltin, Leonard. Biography for Mel Gibson. 1994. IMDb. 14 April 2006 http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000154/bio

Mel Gibson Biography. Allsatars-online.com. 14 April 2006
http://allstars-online.net/Gibsonbio.html
This also the same as the site above tells the story of Mel Gibson, but with more detail and different encounters of how he became an actor/ director. Even though both site contain the same info I think that each has enough different info to help with the paper.

Sir William Wallace. 1996. Highlanderweb.co.uk. 14 April 2006 http://www.highlanderweb.co.uk/wallace/
This article was not about Mel Gibson, but William Wallace the Scotish warrior in Braveheart. It tells how Wallace lived and the facts behind Braveheart and the real William Wallace. I think this will help in my paper because it gives a background on the real story of the Scotish fighting against England.

This website about Sex, Lies and Videotape is mainly reviews and different interpretations of the movie. I still can’t believe all the great reviews there are.

This website I found for Do the Right Thing was a pretty good web site that helped me understand a little more what was trying to be said in the movie. Still didn’t like it but understand it am little more.

When reading Going it Alone from cap 6 I really had no idea about independent films. I had a little familiarity with film like Clerks and Reservoir Dogs, but never got into the independent films. I didn’t realize the different types of independent films along with the topics that the filmmakers use. A lot of the topics revolve around controversial topics and stuff that is going on in real life. I like to call them “thinker movies” because they are more than just a movie to stimulate the eyes they also have you thinking of much more.
The movie Sex, Lies and Videotape was an interesting movie. I can’t say that I either liked or enjoyed it. The story was a bit dark and drawn out. I did like the way the director used the video camera as a porthole for people to talk about a subject that they might not discuss as easy in everyday life. I will always watch a movie once and in this case that will probably be the case with this one.
I chose Spike Lee’s Do The Right Thing. This has to be for me one of the worst movies that I have ever seen. I know Spike Lee is big on showing racist situations and the causes of them. The film was called “Do The Right Thing” and through the whole movie I still don’t know what the right thing is. Is it slacking off at work or complaining about the heat or cops killing a young kid or burning down an Italian pizzeria. Will somebody please tell me, I don’t get it? I consider myself pretty open minded, but I am lost. I definitely think Spike Lee has come a long way from this movie. I saw his new film Inside Man, which had its Spike Lees culture differences, but was a well-directed movie that at least had some substance.

I really enjoyed these weeks’ readings. Finding out how the actors and actresses were in contracts and now they pick and choose the movies they want and the pay to. Looking through everyone’s blogs I liked seeing how they talked about the actors taking on different roles and what they thought about different films. Also reading about the different film elements was very educational, a lot of things go on behind the scenes that nobody knows realizes.
The source that I found for Cutaway gives an overall description of what it is used for in filmmaking.
